Year Of The Blog
11 diciembre 2025
That's right, I've decided to take the plunge and make my own blog! Actually, I've been meaning to for months, but never found the time... I guess that's common among people wanting to just start a blog. Anyway, I'm trying to put myself out there a bit more, so it was time to push myself and actually get this new blog setup.
As many others, I feel like I am done with (now traditional) social media. Moving from the hellscape that Twitter has become to Bluesky was only a marginal improvement. Cohost was very cool but it couldn't last. I kinda like Tumblr, but it's not for everyone and my feelings about it come and go as the directives push the platform in random directions. And don't get me started on the walled garden of Discord. I think that, as long as our online spaces are mediated by these large corporations, we will always feel pretty restrained in how we relate to each other on the web.
So... blogs! Could they be the answer? I used to run a few blogs when I was younger, some of them quite popular back in the day! I miss having this little space carved out for myself on the Internet. Something I can style and fill with random thoughts as I please.
There are some blogs I have been following for years, mostly gamedev-adjacent, that have really inspired me to try my hand at blogging again. Shoutout to v buckenham, whose The Year Of The Blog post garnered some attention earlier this year and led me to discovering a bunch of really cool blogs. Another shoutout to Melos Han-Tani's Substack (which is not really a blog? but is one in spirit, I think) that I have enjoyed for a long time. I'd love this new Lunar Finch Blog to be similar to theirs, in that deep dives into my current project can coexist with game design speculation and even the occasional post about... hiking? Please check out their blog, it is really inspiring.
While we're at it, I'll also mention Stuffed Wombat's Blogroll (not updated anymore, it seems, but that is the nature of these things! I know he still writes elsewhere, and he has some very interesting videoessays)
But I'll stop here before I turn this first post into a recommendations list! What can you expect from my blog?
- Development updates on Imago Season, the roleplaying, first-person exploration game I'm developing.
- General game development talk. My main expertise is programming and tech art, but since I am now working solo, I guess anything goes. Kitbash modeling? Narrative design? Sure, why not. I do have a lot of thoughts about writing for a semi-non-linear narrative-heavy game.
- Games/Films/Books I'm into, maybe? This won't be a reviews blog, but if I enjoy a piece of media and it is relevant to a topic I want to talk about, it'll be here.
- Anything, really. I might even upload my old Bitsy games here. The line between blog and website can be as blurry as we want.
That's it for today. I'll be back soon with an actual blog post about game development, I promise. Until then, you can subscribe to the RSS feed or even follow me on Bluesky! 1
Until next time!
1 I know what I just said about social media, but I do want people to be notified when I post here!
